Why vial amount and liquid volume both matter
Mass alone does not determine concentration. The same material amount can produce different mass-per-volume values when the liquid volume changes.

Concentration needs a numerator and denominator
Mass-per-volume concentration is the total material amount divided by the total solution volume. A vial label supplies only the numerator; the entered liquid volume supplies the denominator.
For a math-only example, 10 mg across 2 mL equals 5 mg/mL. The same 10 mg across 4 mL equals 2.5 mg/mL.
Formula: concentration = total mass ÷ total liquid volume
Check: Do not assume the liquid volume from the vial amount, packaging, or a different example.
Changing volume changes amount per marked unit
A U-100 scale divides each milliliter into 100 marked units. Increasing the total volume spreads the same mass across more marked units, so each marked unit contains less mass.
At 10 mg in 2 mL, the math yields 50 mcg per marked unit. At 10 mg in 4 mL, it yields 25 mcg per marked unit.
Formula: amount per unit = total mass ÷ (liquid mL × 100)
Check: Keep the syringe scale fixed when comparing examples; U-40 and other scales use different volume relationships.
The target determines the final mark
Once the amount per marked unit is known, an entered target can be divided by that value. With the same entered target, a lower amount per unit produces a larger marked-unit result.
This is why changing only the vial amount or only the liquid volume must change the output. The calculator needs all three values to return a mark.
Formula: marked units = entered target ÷ amount per marked unit
Check: Recheck all three inputs whenever the underlying vial, volume, or target changes.
